wednesday 13th july

Hi to everyone from Lavenham falconry in Suffolk,Today we spent the afternoon at Hedingham Castle, and another lovely day although it was a little overcast as the experience continued. And again Gizmo gained height today and pitched at over 80ft and circled over the guests for approx 1 minute. For the first time today we introduced Boris the Russian steppe eagle and worked him beside the lakes for 5 or 10 mins and explaining to our guests the method of training Boris is having to train him from being a static display bird to a valued member of our flying team.

Monday 11th july

Monday was spent on flying experiences at the Castle,Everyone enjoyed their day and the weather was great!!
Working in the beautiful grounds is fantastic and we are so lucky to have the opportunity to work here.
Gizmo the barn owl was brilliant and obedient to the glove, although he did range out a little but returned once called.

sunday 10th july

We have been very busy at lavenham Falconry this past few days with training Boris and working with the falcons. This year we bred some Peregrines and imprinted a male for next year for displays.
Sunday we were visited by Paul and his wife in the morning and Mark and his wife in the afternoon to spend time with the birds, We hope Mark managed to get home on his motorbike before the heavens opened up!!!
Boris really is coming on really well and now flying 75yds to the glove, the only thing iv noticed is that he sometimes forget to put the breaks on and hits the glove really hard.

Weather was great in the morning but the heavens opened up in the late afternoon. All the birds proformed well and we managed to exercise Boris twice during the day, Progress with Boris is steadily continuing and flying from post to glove and in reverse is ongoing. We received some photos from Colin Edwards today ,check out our facebook page, Wow they are brilliant!!!!We will be adding over the next few days more photos on our website so look out for them.

wednesday 6th july

Hi Everyone,
Today we spent 4hrs on our site with two wildlife photographers working with some of our birds. I asked Chris, one of the lads how many pics he had taken and he replied 1500 images at the time!! OMG!!!
The rain held off and it turned out to be a pretty good day. When i get a few copies i will pop them onto the website for you to check out, Oh and check out the link page as we will link the photographers website and contact details to us.As to Boris the steppe Eagle i have decided to move him onto flying 3 times per day to try and improve fitness and get him out of a few naughty habits.

tuesday 5th july Hedingham Castle

today we were at hedingham castle running a half day experience by the lake with 3 flying and 3 participating guests its so beautiful, on the team today was Gadget,Gizmo the barn owls,Ruby the  superior Harris Hawk Ezme the scops and Basil and stella the eagles, fun packed non stop flying with a cuppa tea and biscuits at break time in the castle grounds.
At the end of the day Boris was out and had a mess about getting use to the area, and seemed more interested in the large carp in the lake then the chicken on the glove , bless him but he soon realised that work needed to be done and was again away up and running!

Monday 4th july

Monday has been a very busy day for us here at lavenham falconry, cutting grass, cleaning the perches and exciting working with Boris our new Russian steppe Eagle. Its clear to see not much has been done with him in the past and he is like a sponge soaking up everything were teaching him. Boris is now flying approx 50yrds from perch to fist although his fitness is down from sitting on a perch possibly for a long period of time before he came to us.
He is a very dark steppe (Black and Brown so possible his origins stem from Northern Mongolia.

sunday 3rd july

This past week we have been spending alot of time with one of our new Eagles, Boris the Russian steppe. His flying is becoming stronger every day with a varied diet of chicks, rat, hamster and guineapig to give him extra energy. Hopefully his flying will improve   and with confidence fly more and more to the fist from perches. We will keep you updated as to his progress...
